This limited event provides the opportunity for our SEN visitors to enjoy their visit to Santa without the crowds. Music in the cave will be low and Santa will consider any additional needs. As with our regular Santa’s Grotto experience, you will get a private audience with Santa, a photo opportunity and all children will receive a present from Santa and his elf. After your visit we invite you to enjoy Poole’s Cavern’s illuminated chambers, with festive lighting and decorations. Christmas Custodians will be on hand to explain more about the cave. It typically takes 30 minutes to walk through the cave. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before your time slot to get checked in.
Important Information
Santa’s Grotto is fully accessible for buggy and wheelchair users, however further parts of the cavern have some steps and slopes. If you would like to explore via wheelchair beyond the steps, please email us at info@pooelscavern.co.uk to discuss.
To aid us with your experience, upon booking, please provide a brief description of any additional needs. We will do our best to accommodate accordingly.

- The Temperature inside the cave is 7 degrees Celsius. The cave can be rather drippy during the winter months. Your Santa visit will take place underground in Poole’s Cavern. Please dress accordingly.
- Dogs apart from assistance dogs are not permitted in the cave on this experience.
- There are 28 steps in the cave, the largest flight being 11 steps. There are 2 benches located throughout the cave.
- Please note this experience includes flashing lights.

By placing an order with Poole’s Cavern, you will be deemed to have read, understood and agreed to these Terms and Conditions.
- Each booking will be given a timed entry to visit Santa. There is a maximum of 6 places for each booking, Maximum of 3 children per booking.
- You must arrive 10 minutes before your entry time to validate your tickets at the visitor centre. You will be greeted by one of Santa’s helpers who will show you to the grotto, which is inside Poole’s Cavern itself.
- Poole’s Cavern operate a strict No Refunds policy on unwanted tickets or late arrivals. We cannot guarantee entry to late arrivals due to our events usually selling out.

Bring your Christmas wishes to Poole’s Cavern this December. Meet Santa in his favourite REAL grotto, and explore the beautifully illuminated natural cavern deep beneath the hills of Buxton. All young people will receive an age appropriate present from Santa during their private audience with lots of opportunities to take photos in his magnificent grotto. After your Santa visit, you can then follow the cavern walk way to see the spectacular Poole’s Cavern formations illuminated for the festive season. The cavern visit takes around 30 minutes but you can follow the path at your own pace. Christmas Custodians will be on hand to answer any questions and tell you more about the cave.

Weekends up to Christmas Day & Monday 23rd December: 17:00-18:30.

For a limited time only we will illuminate our 2 million year old limestone caverns with festive lights & projections. Our self-guided light walk through ticket lets you walk through our decorated chambers at your leisure and chat with our custodians about the cavern’s history and geology. You will see Santa’s Grotto illuminated, but unfortunately Santa and his elves are very busy at this time of year and won’t be present. Please note Santa may be in the cave with other families.
Note this is not a guided tour or the Grotto event.
- Please wear sturdy footwear and warm clothing as it is 7 degrees Celsius in the cave.
- This event is Dog Friendly. Please purchase a ticket.
- This event is pushchair possible, not necessarily pushchair friendly due to 28 steps in total. We recommend using a carrier.
- Wheelchairs can only access 1/3rd of the cavern – Please call 01298 26978 for more information.
- This event includes flashing & strobing lights.
- We’d like to stress that we’re a SSSI site, so we welcome photographs but please no filming and do not touch the formations.
