Beyond the Tourist Path: a deeper look into Poole’s Cavern

In Category: Galleries, News

Our tour guides recently donned their helmets and wellies to explore a little further beyond the show-cave route. Behind our archeological dig we find some scientific experiments and some graffiti in wax from the 1850s. Taking to the river bed, we can view our main chamber from a whole new angle. This really shows the scale of our Long View and Flitch of Bacon. Under the bridge we emerge at our poached eggs and an explore up a side passage reveals some beautiful rimstone pools. But it is at the far end of our cave system that our interest peaks. A climb up our boulder choke takes us to the site of the current cave dig, where local cavers Allan and Simon are trying to make progress through the maze of mud and stone. Check out their Dig Updates here
